Capitol Classic Results

November 11, 2010 - Halloween weekend was another great showing for the Jersey Urban Debate League and the Newark Public Schools at the Fourth Annual Capitol Classic Debate tournament in Ellicott, Maryland. Capitol Debate and the Howard County Public Schools hosted over 58 teams from 8 different states ranging from New Hampshire to Florida.
Norberto Romero from Science Park High School dominated the Lincoln Douglas division. He won both the First Place and the Top Speaker award.
In policy debate, the team of Devane Murphy and Amna Tariq cleared to the elimination round with a 5-1 record. They defeated River Hill HS from Maryland in Octofinals and dropped in Quarterfinals on a 2-1 decision to Mountain Brook HS from Alabama. Devane Murphy ranked 10th speaker for the tournament.
The University High School team of Omer Bhatti and Sean Hammond cleared to elimination rounds with a 4-2 record and dropped in Octofinals to the other River Hill debate team. Omer Bhatti was ranked 12th speaker and Sean Hammond was ranked 20th speaker.
