American History blows away competition at Ridge Tournament

NEWARK, NJ - The Jersey Urban Debate League participated in the annual two-day long Ridge High School tournament from Dec. 9-10. Six northeast states participated in the regional competition featuring policy, public forum, and congressional debate. Novice policy debate had 31 teams and the open division had 37 teams.
American History was the only Newark high school to reach elimination rounds, reaching quarters at Ridge both in the novice and open divisions. Jay and Jovan Ross of American History were co-champions with Bishop Guertin High School. American History won quarters against Lexington on a 2-1 decision. In open, American History won quarters against Lakeland High School on a 3-0 decision but dropped to Bronx Science in semis on a 2-1 decision.
Ridge High School has the largest debate program in New Jersey.
