Newark again dominates MHL League tournament

NEWARK, NJ - The Metro-Hudson League (MHL) tournament held at Beacon High School on
January 28, 2012, in NYC was attended by 32 policy teams in the Novice and
Junior Varsity (JV) divisions. These teams were from the greater NY metro
area, and represented both public and private high schools in the area.
After four rounds of rigorous debate competition, Newark has again emerged
as a top competitor in both policy divisions offered. In the JV division,
the team of Victoria Borges and Ali Onque from Technology High School
emerged as the 2nd place winner, being the top team with a 3-1 record.
Newark entered a total of four teams in the division. Victoria Borges, a
junior at Technology, was the top speaker in JV, earning an average of 29
out of 30 points possible per round.
In the novice division, Newark again placed in the top of the results. Out
of the 20 teams entered, the team of John Benitez and Stacy Ferrer from
Technology H.S. placed 5th, with a 3-1 record. Newark entered 3 teams in
this division.
